Ford has recalled three million vehicles to correct defective front-passenger airbags. These airbags are designed to protect passengers during a crash, but If faulty, they can explode and seriously injure everyone in the car. This is just the most recent of a plague of airbag recalls that have occurred in the last few years.

Defective airbags can cause terrible Injuries. When defective driver-side airbags deploy, they can explode and blast metal shards throughout the whole vehicle. If you are hurt by a faulty airbag, you need to talk to an experienced Honolulu defective product attorney at Kurzban, Kurzban, Tetzeli, and Pratt.

The impact of the recall

The recalled Takata airbags have been linked to at least 18 deaths and more than 400 injuries in the United States. Some of these incidents have resulted in horrific outcomes, including:

  • Lacerations and contusions
  • Blindness
  • Organ damage
  • Amputations
  • Death

Since the original airbag recall in 2014, the Japanese manufacturer of Takata has been forced into bankruptcy after accepting negligence for millions of flawed airbags. This has been the largest recall in history, requiring the replacement of 67 million airbags in more than 40 million vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) would not sanction the newest version of Takata airbags as safe, resulting in a recall of seven different car models, over a multitude of years. After Takata’s bankruptcy, Ford has borne the $610 million cost of the recall and accepts the responsibility for the recall and the damages from these faulty airbags.

The recalled vehicles include:

  • 2007-2010 Ford Edge
  • 2006-2012 Ford Fusion
  • 2007-2011 Ford Ranger
  • 2006-2012 Lincoln MKZ/Zephyr
  • 2007-2010 Lincoln MKX
  • 2007-2009 Mazda B-series pickup
  • 2006-2011 Mercury Milan

Ford has mailed notices to vehicle owners, and the NHTSA website has also added a search option to enter your vehicle identification number (VIN) to determine if it is eligible for recall.
